“If you purchase a Hebrew slave, he is to work six years; but in the seventh, he is to be given his freedom without having to pay anything.”
Exodus 21:2 CJB
There is so much we can unpack here, but we will look at a couple of things! One of the first things God deals with is slavery. Remember, they just spent 400 years in it! God doesn’t want slaves, He wants us to treat each other well and to be free!
“You have six days to labor and do all your work.”
Exodus 20:9 CJB
The number six is really significant here: six days work and then rest, six years work and then be set free, we see six thousand years then that day Adonai calls us home to be with Him for all eternity!
“Moreover, dear friends, do not ignore this: with the LORD, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.”
2 Peter 3:8 CJB
It seems throughout scripture rest and peace come on the seventh day or year and God says what He means and means what He says!
“The LORD is not slow in keeping His promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, He is patient with you; for it is not His purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but everyone should turn from his sins.”
2 Peter 3:9 CJB
Today, let’s really look forward to that free gift of eternity with God and share that Good News with others!
Have a blessed day!
Shabbat Shalom!
