“It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”
We may take a day and rest, but do we really rest, and even more importantly, do we get refreshed in the LORD? As we see here, the LORD really emphasizes the importance of taking a Sabbath, resting and being refreshed. Because, as we will see in the very next chapter the Israelites get stupid!
“They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, that brought you out of the land of Egypt.”
We can fall into the same trap: have a great weekend, hear a great message and maybe even get some rest, but we don’t take the time to be refreshed in the LORD! Then Monday shows up and we are right back in the world: making a golden calf so to speak! How? Getting sucked into the news of the day, worrying about sports stats or the drama of daily life! The LORD desires us to be set apart unto Him, because He knows how easily distracted we are!
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
We all need to make sure that we make the time to rest in the LORD and be refreshed by the LORD! This is the only way we don’t get caught up in making golden useless calves, shiny objects that do us absolutely no good! Have a blessed day being refreshed in the LORD!
