What God is saying here is don’t make false gods, because there is only one God, and anything else will let you down!

What do you let stand before you and God? Is it disease, government or a job? Is it health, wealth or even poverty? Don’t build things that get in the way of your walk with God!
How do we keep things from getting in the way?

We all may have issues in life, but we can’t let them get in the way of walking with God!
